ANTEVASINS, means “one who lives at the border.” (Sanskrit).
This indicates a person who had left the bustling center of worldly life to go live at the edge of the forest where the spiritual masters dwell. The antevasin was not one of the villagers anymore — not a householder with a conventional life. The antevasin was an in-betweener; a border-dweller; one who lived in sight of both worlds, but looked toward the unknown. A scholar who dwelled near that simmering line between old thinking and new understanding, always in a state of learning. This is the border that is always moving.
She lives at the border,
always dreaming. A non-conformist, she is not a villager.
No household calls to her.
She is in sight of the forest, ever searching.
No sage or deity of the woods.
She waits for no soul to bid her enter.
She stands with one foot in two worlds
An in-betweener – a border dweller
She studies the unknown traveling lightly.
